A Survival: The 50th Anniversary of the Cambodian Genocide (Lectures in the LLC) In-Person

Join us for a lecture by Bristol's own Makna Men, who holds a master's degree from Brown University in Development Studies as well as a master's degree in education from Cambridge College, as he discusses his book "Determination: A Cambodian Family's Journey."

On April 17 , 1975, Cambodia fell, and a new regime took control: the Khmer Rouge! Makna will share his story of perseverance and determination to succeed as a survivor of genocide—from a childhood marked by struggle, watching bombs drop on his village, escaping numerous battlefields, and living in refugee camps in Thailand to finally arriving in the United States. Makna not only learned English, but he also excelled in a new country, and his journey led him to Bristol Community College as an Academic Coordinator.

Lectures in the LLC, cosponsored by the Library Learning Commons, the Lash Center for Teaching & Learning, and the Bristol Holocaust and Genocide Center, explore the literary achievements of Bristol's talented faculty and staff through a series of lectures showcasing their published works.
